Can someone actually "fail" the DAT?

I was watching the LSU-South Carolina game on ESPN2 this evening, and the sideline reporter was talking about how LSU qb Matt Mauck had taken the DAT last week and "missed passing the test by one point."

Having taken the DAT three different times, I know that the scores are graded based on a scale, and that in theory there are no "failing" grades (although cumulative DAT score below 15 would be considered not so good). So what the heck was ESPN talking about? Does Mauck even know what's going on?

He probably was shooting for a 10AA and recieved a 9AA. Poor guy....

There is no such thing like PASS OR FAIL a standardized test.
You can retake the test if you score 50% or 98%

Nope. You can bomb it and mutilate it, but you can't fail it.

There isn't a passing grade, so there isn't any way to fail it.

what is it as the SAT is to college the DAT is to Dental school?

The DAT is the Dental Aptitude Test. You have to take it to complete your application to dental schools.
