Hi, i am currently a sophomore attending brooklyn college. i currently have a 3.52 gpa and am looking to attend dental school in the future. last semester i took gen chem. 1 and got a b+ and this semester i am taking bio 2 and chem 2.( havent taken bio1 yet). in bio i am heading towards an A if everything continues, but in chem 2 just recieved a 68 on my first exam and at best looking at a b+ maybe even a B. Just wondering if i get a B in the class and finish everything else with b+'s or above as for prereqs, are my chances well enough to get in. i would also like to know of any extracurriculars to participate, shadowing and stuff like that. i am a psych major but aside from the prereqs just plan on taking biochem my senior year. please any advice from anyone help !

Study hard for next exam and if you dont do well I would withdraw and start fresh next semester with the class. Obviously change up study methods if this happens. One or two W's is not the end of the world, but a C or a D in a pre req is no bueno! I have had to take one W because my mom was in a hospital (has mental illness) and this will be included in my personal statement. Do you have something going on in your life affecting studying as i did? Best of luck

thats too bad man about your conditions that can really be devastating, but no i dont have anything going to be honest. i just have serious troubles with what we covered during that first exam, i studied and received my exam grade and was really shocked to see all the small mistakes add up like that.

Well your GPA is pretty solid, but if I were you and didnt do well on the next exam (B or higher) I would drop it like its hot. And I have a 3.83 btw and would still not take the risk. Good luck. And does professor curve? That is something to ask before you go dropping or anything like that!

nice 3.8 is up there. i should be getting 100's on the next 2 exams i swear theres no other choice, just seeing whether the B or B+ would be detrimental. Did you go through admissions yet ?

Definitely take a B or B+ over a W, but if you get a similar score on next exam getting a B or B+ becomes unlikely which is problematic for your GPA. So just talk to prof about curve/scale or lack of. And go all out for next exam! Good luck!

thanks man i appreciate the support ! seriously ! goodluck to you too !

You'll be fine. I had a B/B+ in a good number of my prereqs and got into dental school just fine.

I would take the B/B+. A couple B's here and there won't hurt you too badly. If you withdraw, you will have to waste another quarter taking the same class instead of taking other classes that could boost your GPA and look better (upper div bio courses). Also, since general bio is a prereq for many upper div science courses, that will also delay when you can start taking those courses.
