Hey guys i'm giving the practical exam at USC day after tomorrow, and i have heard that they ask u to do a mod 3/4 onlay prep...can someone please tell me what the hell this is??? i dont have a clue, and if u have any links please post tehm so thati can go to a site and see the steps or at least the design,
thanks

I would say somebody's pulling your leg. I can't imagine doing a 3/4 MOD onlay on a board exam. If I remember correctly, it's basically a regular MOD onlay, but the mesio-buccal cusp is not prepped (to keep it cosmetic). I don't know of any pictures online, but I remember there was one in my old Pros textbook by Rosensthal (Rosenstiel?).

Make sure you don't have to do gold foil also.

Thanks,
thas what i thought how could u do a 3/4 onlay so i figured it was leaving the buccal unprepared for cosmetic purposes...so i'm gonna go with that..as far as I know , they have not ever asked a gold foil but i'll read up on it...
thanx again,
peace

Isn't that basically a 3/4 crown prep? If it is, I know they tell you how to do it in "Fixed Prosthodontics" by Shillingburg.

Yeah but it's got that groove down the middle like an inlay.
