1) radial symmetry and tube feet
2) bilateral symmetry and endoskeleton
3) dorsal, hollow nerve chords
4) bilateral symmetry and waster vascular system
5) segmented body and exoskeleton

do we need to know all of these? i mean is it even possible to remember all of their characteristics?

What's a "waster" vascular system? Do you mean water?

The answer could be echinoderms. I know, they're radially symmetrical. But there are certain characteristics to them that are bilateral, such as their larvae. It's believed that they descended from a bilaterally symmetrical source.

the only phylum i know with the water vascular system is the echinoderms, which are typically radially symmetrical, but sea cucumbers are not radially symmetrical, i think. I would answer echinoderms as well.
 
are u guys just reading this from ur study aid material and copying them down or are they coming out of ur head. Did u guys really memorize all phylum with their characteristic!!??!!?!

I'm going to have to disagree with that. Porifera are sponges. They have no sort of symmetry and are not even eumetazoa, but are parazoa (don't have any order in their tissue and such). As a side note, porifera don't have a coelom or anything of the like, but do have digestion through the amoebocytes which they contain.

Anyway... can't be porifera.

i actually took a class, non-major but fulfilled GE requirement, that was basically about phylogeny of animals, including prehistoric and other extinct animals (i.e. dinosaurs), and the professor stressed the unique features of the phyla, which has a specific term that I forget.

so yeah, it's coming from my head. 🙂

Joon, the thing with the phyla is that you have to know some of their characteristics in order to differentiate them. You can't just know them by what their common names are. Example: Platyhelminthes are flatworms... alright... now, you have to know that they're the only ones really classified as acoelomates, leaving the pseudocoelomate category for the rotifera (rotifers) and the nematods (roundworms). Since PH is an acoelomate, it follows that it only has one gut opening.

This is just an example, but yah... I'd say you should know characteristics.
