Can you get a pressure ulcer from sitting on your butt all day studying?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

You better log roll yourself x2 each shift, and dont forget to document .

It is extremely unlikely that a healthy 20 something who is mobile, and does not have any other underlying pathology is going to develop a pressure ulcer. If you do develop one, you should submit a case report to journal.

Id be more concerned about dvt prophylaxis

Granted both are ridiculous but you’re more likely to get a dvt than a decubitus ulcer

OP, are you going to use sequential compression devices on your legs or inject yourself with heparin or Lovenox subQ?

I would get orthostatic symptoms in medicine school after a few months of constant studying and nothing else

Wait what

I put a nice soft pillowcase on it and called it good. Definitely kept the butt cheeks from falling asleep, but if you sat on it crooked it did have a tendency to tilt you, though.

If you don't have a really good desk chair, buy one!

Ulnar nerve neuropathy is the real achilles heel of studying all day

That and gaining 15lbs

I have serious ulnar nerve neuropathy, and right thumb neuropathy (I’m a read-write learner and hold my pen against my thumb rather than more toward the tip of the fingers and thumb which apparently is the right way. I realized I held my pen awkwardly by middle school but it was already too late to retrain.)

Get checked for a pilonidal cyst. I got one from sitting non stop post surgery. If you have one get it treated ASAP. my flare ups hurt more than muscle spasms post knee surgury

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was starting to think I was venturing into med-student-syndrome land...
