Can you make 2 deposits?

This is probably a dumb question....
once you've been accepted to a dental school and you put down a deposit, is there some kind of binding contract? Or can you guarantee your spot with the deposit, and still kind of keep your hopes up for something else? Of course its expensive, but, are you allowed to make a deposit at more than one school? Don't know....thanks for helping 😛
