so I feel that my practice exams go better when i'm reasoning things out by talking or whispering to myself. is this something they would allow in the exam room? when i say talk i mean lightly whispering. i would hate to be another examinee but when i'm seeing a significant boost this way...does it matter if someone else gets a little annoyed?

lol no. Where I took the MCAT the first time they had microphones and could hear everything you did. They also had cameras. So I'm guessing if you talk, they'll interpret it as you basically telling everyone around you the answers.

My proctor told me to stop writing stuff down five minutes into the ten minute tutorial section or else she'd mark it as suspicious conduct. All depends on how ignorant your proctor is.

That's why you have to address this before your exam, unfortunately. Contact the testing center far in advance and get in writing from the manager or whoever's in charge what their policy is (if it's wrong correct them with clarification directly from the AAMC).

Correct. I got the approval for this by the AAMC over the phone and then contacted my exam site to double check that they understood the rules. You can write during the tutorial section and if a site doesn't let you they are putting you at a disadvantage. For instance, if doodling makes you feel comfortable in-between tests, why shouldn't you be allowed to do that? Your testing center didn't know the rules, which is a shame because this is a common thing people do and the AAMC get this question a lot. They have a straightforward answer to it, "yes you can write during breaks and tutorials".

I did that for verbal haha...It helps me process the info. That really shouldn't be a problem. I also wrote equations and drew pictures of flowers during the entire time of my tutorial and during breaks. My testing center didn't give me any trouble. If you're not sure, definitely call the testing center. Dealing with that on test day can be a nightmare with all the nerves.

" lol I don't really care about potentially lowering someone's score as long as I benefit."

Go **** yourself, dude.

I would raise hell if I could hear the person next to me talking. And the level of inconsideration required for you to not give a damn about screwing your peers is sad. "Does it matter if someone gets a little annoyed?" No, not at all. Someone is taking the most important exam of their life thus far, and you're directly interfering with their concentration for convenience.

Brilliant.

What equations do you need to write down immediately? None unless you're cramming equations in right before the exam. And there aren't even that many to remember..

Amen to this.

Did you not read the part about "moving my mouth without sound coming out?" Stop acting douchey for zero reason. No one was asking if they could scream out explanations to themselves during the exam. It's implied that whatever strategy one prefers it shouldn't annoy other examinees. I didn't realize there were barriers between each examinee. I was just worried other test takers might see me mouthing things to myself and get annoyed. A lot of people on SDN are so quick to assume the worst of everyone and attack them.

Also, during my exam, the person to my right kept hitting his pencil against the barrier between us and the one on the other side kept slamming the door as he walked in and out (a million times btw, idk why one would do that during a timed exam). So I consider myself extremely considerate, quiet, and polite.

There was a guy who posted only a little while ago that another test taker had complained about him talking to himself during the exam and the AAMC had found merit in the accusation and was investigating the complaint and that it could result in his score being voided.

I don't know if he ever posted a follow-up but you do NOT want to be that guy.

I sincerely hope not, especially if you are sitting next to me. But I do think it's allowed.

I think I inadvertently whispered to myself a few times. I was also lectured for taking my sweatshirt off in the middle of the exam. I don't consciously remember doing that but the sweatshirt was off. This is a golden rule type situation. The vast majority of people have enough empathy for their fellow test takers after the hell we've all endured to not be willfully inconsiderate and ruin it for others. At least I hope.
