Howdy all,

I have yet to take the Dat and I'm rather clueless about the Prometric system. Is it just like a room full of computers? Can we use scrap paper for jotting down things while taking the test? (since we can't use calculators.....)

They require you to EMPTY EVERYTHING FROM YOUR POCKETS. So it is logical that they supply you with EVERYTHING: PENCIL, ERASER, SCRAP PAPER, hmmm... TOILET PAPER!!!! . However, everything must be returned as well. Therefore, you can write whatever you want on the scrap-paper. Heck, you can make paper planes out of them. The key thing is you must RETURN EVERYTHING after. I was kidding about the toilet paper part, but you can feel free to wipe your ass in the bathroom and give them your stool for sampling if you wish

Take care,
Rich

Although the center does provide you paper, its usually a packet of 4 pages. You can always get more paper by asking ( you will have to give up the used paper), for me, I did not have to empty my pockets.

The test center gives you a locker to put your crap into. They have cameras pointing at each of the computers, so I would not recomend trying to sneak anything that is not alowed.

I suggest using the tutorial time (15min) to jot down some equestion or values for sin cos etc. Also you can set up grids for helping you manage the elimination process. And then save a few minutes to focus and RELAX!

and then tackle it!

tip:

separate the front cover the scrap paper booklet and write down every equation or find hard to forget (good for chem and ochem and trig formulas) you can during the time you get to get acclamated with the computer. it will help you by not having to flip through the booklet and you have everything ready to go

Wow, Rich, that was a nice post. And thanks for the visual.....

I'd like to see the face of the prometric proctor when you return the used toilet paper

"uh yes sir, thank you, we'll keep it on file"

haha, that was a good joke Richnator

no calculators, not even a simple function calc or a slide rule

You can't bring anything inside the testing room with you. They give you paper and 2 pencils. Take some time before you start the exam to regain your composure and write down formulas or what not. 🙂

Remember also to wisely regulate the use of the 4-page-booklet given by not wasting it with exceptionally big handwritings and drawings. But if you happened to be given an erasable whiteboard, there's very little you could do to pre-write those formulas then. 🙁
