Hey all, here's a thread for all things Alberta. One question I have is whether or not having a degree helps at all for admissions, does anyone know if it does? From what I can tell, the only advantage to having a fourth year is that you can eliminate your lowest GPA year from your cumulative GPA average. I have not read anything that would indicate that a degree is to your advantage. Thoughts anyone?

Also, if anyone has any Alberta - specific interview suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

i'm from the UofA and i'm fairly certain that having a degree is more advantageous.

I know someone who got in after 2 years so it is possible. If you are qualified you will get in no matter what year your in. If you are tied with another person for the last spot they will probably take the guy with the degree.
Did you guys apply to any other canadian schools?

congratulations on getting into UBC. Thats awesome. If you also get accepted to UofA are you going to consider it. Tuition is cheaper!

My father is a dentist in Lethbridge and went to U of A. He says he now has PTSD from the experience.

Do tell us more. I have actually had a few friends at the U of A tell me that it has not been a very good experience.....and these guys are the cream of the crop as far as students go. If you can give me any more info I would really appreciate it. Talk to you soon man.

i applied to UofA and UBC only and will be attending UBC in the fall.

I'm assuming because this post is old, you are already attending UBC. How do you like it? Would you recommend it? I live in the lower mainland, and UBC is the closest ds so I'm hoping it's a good choice 🙂

I am just wondering if you know for the first round of interview letters...how many ppl are getting interviewed? also how many in-province they are intervieweing and how many out of province they are interviewing?...thanks

The first round of interview letters have aleardy gone out (Uof A). If you didn't get one by now then you will either be getting one in june-ish (if they don't fill the all the seats) or a rejection letter.

I applied but didn't get in. Their facility is dated to say the least.... I got back form an interview at NYU and their school is amazing, but you pay accordingly.... The UofA admission/dentistry office lady is a hag to say the least... always rude and will never give you the time of day. Regardless if you are polite and cordial... Form what I hear the program is pretty relaxed, by that I mean since classes are all taken in blocks, where as NYU you have anywhere up to 8 classes at a time.
