Canadian Applicant to UMDNJ MBS

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone? 🙁 I've been a lurker of SDN for awhile, and am on the fence whether I should pursue the SMP at UDMNJ.

I would call the school directly and pose the question to them.

Best of luck!

Thank you MsMouth!

Will try that. You're from Jersey, is the UMDNJ Masters in Biological Science worth it?

I honestly have no idea. I'm a non-trad student anyway so not the right person to ask really. Just be sure that it is necessary and worth it for you before getting into it.

I just graduated from the UMDNJ MBS program my opinion is that it does help. A lot of the friends I met there, who are mostly non-traditional reapplicants with similar stats as you, have received at least one interview invite this cycle. I have one interview so far, but I hope to get more soon since I applied relatively late (late August). I had no interviews two years ago when I applied. The biggest advantage in this program is that you're able to take dental school courses alongside dental students. It's not necessarily the most difficult program, but you do have to work hard to get those A's and I think getting those A's rather than B's really do make a difference in terms of graduate school grades. The worst part about the program is that Newark is an awful, awful city. Still, its proximity to New York made the experience a lot of fun.

So, if you've already taken your prereqs, I'd recommend a SMP just for the fact that it's cheaper and could be done in a year (if you choose to do so). I'm not sure if it's more difficult for Canadians, but I applied to UMDNJ with a 2.5 GPA and got in so I'd think you'd have a good chance.

You have given me so much more hope!

I have a strong trend of increasing grades, and this year, I'm looking at 4.0 in all my classes this semester.

I just hope I do well on my DAT, your DAT scores look amazing!
I heard a lot of bad things about Newark, and about American cities in general... but am sure there are good parts of the city as well as bad.
