So, as the title mentions I am a Canadian applicant who has already written the DAT (24AA/26TS/18RC). I’m interested in applying for next cycle to a few American schools, but am curious as to how the AADSAS GPA is calculated. The current institution that I am at assigns letter grades (A+, A, B+, B, C+, D, and F). I understand that everything is normalized so that everyone gets a GPA out of 4.0. However, an A at my school for science classes is typically given out to individuals who get 80-89% in the class. I have quite a few A’s on my transcript, so, would these be converted to a B? If this is the case that would drastically reduce my GPA from 3.80 to 3.02.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello, I will be releasing a guide on the application process within a couple months. But essentially if your university gives out letter grades then A/A+ = 4.0, B+= 3.3, B= 3.0, etc. Refer to risaac3's reply below if your school gives out percentage grades.

the 80-89%= A thing tells me that u are possibly attending Western. If that's the case (or even if it's not), look up your schools letter grade conversion (either google or call registrar). When you send a transcript, the letter grade chart is typically included on the transcript and AADSAS uses those conversions to calculate ur GPA. In other words, if you have a lot of 80-89s or As, you straight up have them as 4.0s. If your school transcript says that your % is an A, AADSAS doesn't downgrade it to a B. At least for me they didn't.

Cheers.

Sorry to bump this thread. Does this mean that Canadian schools that use Percent grading systems are at an advantage than letter grading system for AADSAS? For instance, as risaac3 mentioned, UWO uses percent grading system where 80-89%=A, and 90-100%=A+. I went to Wilfrid Laurier where we had A- (80-84), A (85-89), and A+ (90-100). Therefore, if someone that got 83 at UWO their GPA would be calculated as 4.0 for that course and if someone got 83 at Laurier their GPA would be calculated as 3.7 since A- = 3.7 on AADSAS grading scale? Can you someone please clarify this. Thank you!

That would be correct - they go off by the school's grading policy. The real advantage lies on the school rather than grading systems.
