Hi,

Im applying to US schools from Canada. My GPA is around 3.50, and I was doing my DAT's in september but because of summer school, am pushing up my date to january.

I was just wondering, do Canadian applicants need to have higher averages when applying to US schools, for example my top choice is BU, and theyre looking for around a 3.4, so being Canadian would 3.5 be acceptable?

My stats 3.4 both science and overall, 18 dat, 18 aa, 18 sci. 21 pat, and here I sit at midwestern. You should be fine but apply to private schools, and make sure you have a good RC, Pat, and QR aren't usually as important.
Good Luck

it sucks how schools don't really look at QR..It's my highest! haha

What may be acceptable will be a function of what other Canadians bring to the table. January may be pushing the limit to the extreme.

I am glad that you were able to put that together, if not I would be a little worried about the RC. There a couple of canadians in last years class, and I am one of two canadians this year. They don't look as much at where you are from they just want the who they think will be the best qualified. They look at a lot of factors and EC's, and service are high on the list. The dean is huge into ethics, and a really great guy. I really love the school even though I live in library, preparing for national boards that we take at the end of this (the first) year. Good luck.

FYI- Our class stats for last year were GPA 3.5, DAT 19, and RC 22; but this year they are already expecting more applicants, so shoot for at least these numbers if you want a better chance of acceptance. I was one of the few lucky ones that got in with low stats but also had quite a bit of EC's, like a week in mexico helping a team of dentists... Hope this helps.

hi Idscanadian, I am a canadian applicant as well, and I have the same DAT as you, 18 aa 18sci 22 PAT, 19 RC. Do you think I should retake dat for american schools? i have 3.3 in undergrad, and 4.0 in graduate.

I wouldn't retake the DAT, unless you feel that you can for sure do better. Your score is decent. Your RC is good, and Dat is only a little below average (QR and PAT don't carry any weight here at MWU). With a solid masters gpa you should get in this year, but if I was you I would apply to every private school in the nation.(Hopefully you have already applied or are applying for the next cycle in early june) Apply to the private schools Midwestern, NYU, Case, Boston, ect. Make sure that you apply to at least a dozen schools and get involved in some good EC's. Oh yeah also some schools require you to take the american dat. The score I have are on the american dat which you can take in Canada. MWU only takes the american dat, but I don't know about other schools.
Good luck.
