Alright guys, back at it again.

I took the DAT for the first time Nov 2016.
Here's my breakdown:
RC: 25
Bio: 22
Chem: 19
Science total: 20
AA: 22
PAT: 18

Retake: Nov 2017
RC: 25 (100% percentile!)
Bio: 22
Chem: 23 (No idea how this happened, I hate chem)
Science total: 23
AA: 23
PAT: 19

I would be tickled if I got 21+ on the PAT. I am so disappointed in that one score. The two schools I'm applying to take your best full DAT. One looks only at AA and PAT (which gives me 21). One looks at RC, Bio, Chem, PAT (gives me a 22.25).

What would you do?

Should I retake in February? Any advice for someone who seems to just suck at the PAT?

Edit: my GPA is also a little low. 2% below avg. Last two years A-A+ avg though

In my opinion your score is golden for western but you might take a hit at UofT because they consider AA+PAT. Tough call, i think if you have the time go ahead and retake to see if you can bring up ur PAT a couple points (very doable).

Cheers.

I'm actually looking at U of Manitoba and UBC.

What would you recommend for the PAT? I did DAT bootcamp and Crack DAT PAT, Kaplan.

If it makes you feel better, the PAT was intense as hell on the Nov DAT
18 (49th percentile), 19 (68th), and 20 (83rd) were by far the most common scores

I'm with you though -- I wrote the Nov test as well and all of my scores were 21 or 22 except my PAT which was also a 19
Based on my experience talking with some buddies who are currently in dental school I don't think you need to retake it

Not sure about Manitoba but I'm going to disagree with the above and say that you definitely have to retake for UBC. I'm also applying there and am also 2% below average lol. I think we've got to average at least 23 overall to be safe. I got 21AA and 21PAT (21 overall like you) this November DAT so I'll be retaking. The other option is to bump your average 2% but that may require a lot of courses depending on your credits and even then you won't be guaranteed an interview until you get a 22 overall.. It's possible with a 21 but not guaranteed.

Also I'm answering this based on what I know about previous years. Gotta remember that there's CASPer factored in this year too and we have no idea how much it's worth in the pre-interview stages. Maybe if we're lucky it's enough to offset our DATs lol

Thanks for responding. I feel in my mind that I'm pretty much toast for UBC. With a GPA under 84%, I'd need to pull a 23 or 24 avg AA+PAT.

See you in February, 🙁
