Hey all, I'm planning on taking the canadian dat next spring...

I have Kaplan review books for the MCAT from my sister...Do you think these will be sufficient to cover the bio and chem sections?

What book is there that's good for studying for the perceptual section?

Where do I get a cool carving knife like the one they use in the DAT 🙂 Anyone willing to sell one? 😀

Thx.

Hey...I wrote the Canadian DAT and I think I have everything that you would need. I took the Kaplan course and so I have all the books in addition to extra perceptual stuff...I think I still have the knife too. Lemme know if you're interested..where abouts are you located anyways??

If you go to the CDA website, they have a section where you can order the curving kit. The kit includes if I recall correctly, 6 soaps, the curving knife and the ruler.

Just wondering, for a Canadian student with GPA 3.0-3.2 range, is it wise to take the American DAT instead since the chance of admitting in Canadian school is really slim. I heard American DAT is a bit easier cuz it has no carving component. Is that the only different between Canadian and American DAT?

Thanks!

Smooth,

Its really up to you.

You see, the American DAT has Organic Chem + Quantitative Reasoning on it, so if you think that tackling those is a lot easier than carving soap, thats your call. I would still recommend taking the Canadian DAT, just because you dont have to get into Organic Chem. But if you dont mind it, do the American.

Doing the carving also lets u know if you can make a half competent dentist. If you break your soap or something, you might wanna work on your manual dexterity. But if you score well, then American Adcom's know that you do have good manual dexterity, and you dont have to prove it otherwise.

I dont think the American DAT is easier...just because of the carving? Like people have said, there is math and orgo on the american, so it all depends on how well you do in those subjects...

Also, the American DAT is done on the computer (which sucks for the PAT) and the Canadian DAT is done on paper....that makes a big difference as well and should be taken into consideration...

dude take the Canadian DAT.

Canadian schools take the Canadian DAT and so do most of the schools in the USA, cept UCSF and UCLA...

I'm watchin' out for my fellow Canuck Cakers lolz...even though I ain't a caker...hehe

Take it from a guy who got into both. Canadian DAT is the way to go.
