Hey guys. I am about to write my DAT (Canadian) for the first time in about a week. The cDAT, in my opinion, is poorly scheduled because you're pretty much swamped with midterms whether you choose the November or February sitting.

I don't care too much about the registration fee, but I'm not too well-prepared. Is it better to go out there and just take the exam (get a "feel for it") or is it better if I just skip it/try to get deferred? Is it easy to get deferred?

Thanks!

Hey,

I suggest you just go so you can get a feel for the test, especially if you have not done any courses/mock exams. A LOT of people end up having to take the DAT 2 or even 3 times before they are happy with their mark, so it is not uncommon to write more than once and you will not be penalized by the dental schools you apply to. I am also writing this weekend, so good luck!

I agree, you should go ahead and write it. The CDA will not reschedule your date or refund your money, as I'm sure you have figured out by now. Plus, everyone is in the same situation with their midterms. Since you have already paid the money, I would say just go out and put your best foot forward. Good Luck!

You Candanians who "write" the DAT. I would try to take the American one if you can...its pretty easy. Just take it once, who wants to spend 360 dollars multiple times? Personally, clicking A,B,C,D, or E for PAT on a computer is much easier than carving a soap bar in my opinion. Best of luck to you. 🙂

Soap carving is optional for Canadian DAT and its better than to prepare extra Organic Chem and Math for US DAT...and its only 200 dollars compared to 360$$...

No way! I didn't know about that price discrepancy. The organic chem on the DAT is pretty easy though. Good luck everyone with cDAT then!

You don't really have anything to lose since all the dental schools look at your last or best score. I would write it if I were you. You aren't getting any of your money back anyways and there isn't much you can do to prepare for it either. Good Luck tomorrow!
