Yes, I am Canadian and applied for DPT this cycle. I have Canadian citizenship, however all of my education is in the States. Hope this helps! I've been waitlisted at U Puget Sound and rejected from Chapman, Mayo Clinic and Regis.

I'm also Canadian and applying for DPT (and MSPT). Waitlisted at Pitt and Thomas Jefferson so far

Another Canadian here. Slim chance, but did any of you guys by any chance graduate with a 3 year degree from Ontario, or know anybody who has? I'm wondering how that is going to play out for applying to US schools. I've got a masters from the US and took my prerequisites here, but I haven't been able to get a straight answer from schools since it's not a common situation. Only school that had a definitive "yes" answer was D'Youville, which I plan on applying to.

Another Canadian here - applied for DPT this cycle, and did all my education in US as well (except Chem II which I just finished in Canada this Spring). Accepted to Delaware, Maryland and George Washington. Waitlisted at Puget Sound. Waiting to hear from Western in Ontario but with my situation I am not putting too much hope into that right now... sigh. Feel free to message me if you need help! 🙂

Hi! Maybe you guys can help me -- I'm confused and worried and trying to sort out the possibilities. I'm sorry this is a little long.

I'm a US citizen/Canada permanent resident. I'm doing a BA in Kinesiology at York University in Toronto. My plan has been to study in Canada (cheaper) and work in the US (warmer). I thought it would be a pretty safe bet that my credentials would be assessed as equivalent in the States and that I could get a license there. That's still possible, but I just read on the CAPTE website that the transition DPT programs (for MPT to DPT) are only open to US licensed PTs who graduated from an accredited program. I received confirmation from UNC Chapel Hill that I would have to get my PT degree from a CAPTE accredited school in order to do their transition program. The only CAPTE accredited program in Canada is UofT. That means if I went to a different school up here, I would #1 have to hope my credentials would be assessed as equivalent in the US and #2 have to accept that I couldn't go on to the doctorate level. Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences related to this issue?

The other confusing thing it seems all PT applicants in the US go through PTCAS, and their website states that Canadian transcripts are accepted, but the courses are not included in my GPA. I emailed them some questions but haven't heard back yet. I have read on this forum that US schools will accept prerequisites done in Canada and will calculate them into the GPA even though PTCAS doesn't. Has anyone else had this experience?

I would really appreciate any advice you guys have on going from Canada to the US. It's so complicated. Thank you!

I'm a dual citizen who did my undergrad in Canada. the PTCAS doesn't include your Canadian grades into your GPA, but most schools will calculate your GPA themselves. One school I applied to required that I have my transcripts verified by the World Education Service for my application to be evaluated. The rest didn't require this during the initial application process, and I got acceptances without it. I did however need to do it before I was able to officially enroll in my current program.

I was also curious about practicing the the US if I had gone to PT school in Canada, so I called the school that I was interested in and asked them, they told me that it generally isn't a problem for previous graduates from the program. I didn't end up following up about more details because I didn't end up going that route, but my suggestion would be to reach out directly to the school.

Hope this was helpful!

Thanks so much for replying! That was very helpful.

Good luck in your program! Where is it?
