Hi there!
I was just wondering if there are any current DO students or DO wannabes that are from Canada? If so I wanted to hear the of experiences with applying for DO schools in the states. I haven't yet have heard of any other Canadians that want to become DOs (but I haven't really searched that hard either..) so it'd be awesome if I find out that you guys do exist! 🙂

Thanks a lot!

I'm a Canadian expat, but I'll be getting my DO degree in the states. I intend to move back to ON someday and practice as a physician there.

Search for docbill. He is from Canada, and he should be at UNECOM.

Wow thanks for all the replys!! I'm from Ontario as well, oakville actually and I currently go to Mac. I also hoped to go to school in the states and come back to Canada one day as well. It's too bad that they don't have any schools that train osteopaths physicians in Canada where they also provide medical education.

For those of you applying and have also gotten accepted, how did you find the application process? Were you able to find a lot of osteopaths to shadow? I was able to find a list of osteopaths that practice in Ontario but I think they may all have been trained in Canada, does anyone know whether if the DO shadowed need to be a DO physician or can a Canadian trained osteopath be okay as well?

We have a few canadians at DMU. My brother-in-law is canadian and he went to Western. He's practicing in the states.

I would try to shadow an American trained DO. I live in Windsor so there are lots of DOs close by in Michigan. In Ontario I think there are only a handful of DOs -- I believe there's one in Barrie, Lindsay, and Richmond Hill....

Great advice I found from reading these forums is the suggestion to email Dr. Findlay, the president of the Canadian Osteopathic Medical Association. I asked him a bunch of questions and he was quite helpful in answering them. He could probably be able to help you get in contact with DOs here in Canada.

Docbill is at a DO school right now, he's pretty knowledgable about the whole applying as a Canadian/returning to Canada thign. I only just submitted my application 2 weeks ago, hopefully I'll hear back soon about secondaries and eventually interviews!

Hey Misparas, how is DMU so far? I've heard lots of great things about the school - while I haven't visited the campus yet, just from talking to some current students, it's one of my top choices.
