So I am nearing the end of the interview cycle (adult neuro residencies) and have Mt Sinai, Yale, Einstein, Jefferson, and NYU on the top of my list. I am interested in EEG, stroke, and neurocritical and would likely end up in an education track academic position in the future. They all seem like excellent places to train and I can't decide how I would rank them. If I were to base it strictly on my future sub-specialty interests which of these places are best known for say EEG, or neurocritical, or stroke? Alternatively, which are good places for people not sure among the three? Would really appreciate any advice 🙂

Not familiar with Einstein.

Mt. Sinai, Yale, Jefferson, and NYU are all pretty strong w/ all your mentioned subspecialties well represented. I'm not too certain about neurophys programs, but for stroke/NCC, I'd probably rank them 1. Yale, 2. Mt. Sinai, 3. Jefferson, 4. NYU... Probably depends on which area of the northeast you want to be in.

Where do you want to live? You picked a bunch of NYC programs...if you want to live in NCY then Yale is not going to float your boat. Remember that you're picking a residency and not a fellowship. People really do move around. If you're in NYC in particular, then you can do away rotations at Sinai if you want to work with Stephan, or Columbia if you want to work with Jan. All of these programs are going to give you the opportunity to experience these specialties, except Einstein which I don't think has an ICU.
