I encourage my colleagues to spurn CAP membership and, more importantly, get lab accreditation/PT from JCAHO or another organization. CAP is a PT company, not a professional society.

Is CAP membership of the Lab director a requirement for CAP certification of his Lab? If not, would the director be free of "reciprocity inspection of other Labs" requirement?

I think HRC speaking is looking Partisan for the CAP.
However, this move is actually looking very smart at this time.
She is likely to be POTUS and a key healthcare policy maker. She now really knows who CAP is and what role a pathologist plays.
Rather than speaking against CAP you should be supporting any move that promotes pathology. CAP tries be in with players on both sides of the isle.
Not many friends of Medicine these days on either side unfortunately.
CAP move into PT has pros and cons. One pro is they have a lot more money to operate The profession would likely be in worse shape if CAP operated on simple membership money.

CAP needs to spin off it's PT business. It is a conflict of interest that many people are upset with. The interlab comparison slides for path are not the best quality in the world either. Are they worth what we pay?
