I just got an email inviting me to fill out a job survey describing my experiences in getting a job. All the relevant questions were there, such as what I thought about the perceived difficulty in getting a job, where I was, where I applied, how many interviews, etc., etc.. You can even fill out a box about what you think of the current market (without character restrictions- go for it Thrombus).

Looks like CAP IS trying to get data about this situation before enacting. The survey is on Surveymonkey. I won't post the link, but if you recently completed training you should be expecting such an email.

/please take all your biatching there.

I got the email this morning and promptly filled it out. I really want to see the results of this thing. If it truly reflects what most of us who were in the market this year experienced, then I just wonder what the ACP and CAP will have to say then. But I'm glad that they are at least asking the questions. 👍

You know what most experienced? Save the CAP some money and go ahead and give them your survey results...

By 'us' im referring to my current colleagues and posters to this forum that have had difficulty in the job search this year and perceive the job market as bad.

I guess if I were you and had a different perspective, then I would post on here a snotty passive aggressive remark stating I beleive anothers comment is B.S.

Or maybe I would read as it was intended, a comment stating: I took the survery, I eagerly await the results, and I'm glad the CAP and APC are undertaking this process.

Sorry. I'm sensitive to the phrase "most of us". I have no doubt there are folks that struggled in their job search and hope that is reflected and acknowledged in the interpretation. I also hope that the survey picks up on the main roadblocks to getting a good position (e.g. geography, board certification, refusal to work outside of your sub-specialty, etc.) I read your statement as, "most of us think it's a bad market, but the survey probably won't reflect that, but at least they are asking questions". Again, sorry.

rollwithit- You've told us that you're not a physician and that you're not a corporate lab executive. What is your profession?

As far as I know, only 3 posters here have discussed PERSONALLY having difficulty finding employment- you, Tiki, and the "hemepath fellow" who needed our "help". Everything else has come from second hand anecdotes or straight up trolls. The most prominent, of course, being Thrombus (grumpy old man who has an interest in keeping everyone away from his pot of gold), Substance (WTF is with this guy- he's not a pathologist and just trolls this site), and others like Meat on Glass, who quit residency after 1 year since, supposedly, he could not land a job.

I do agree that there is lots of stories about the tight market, and I want to see REAL DATA before really coming to a conclusion about how bad it really is. I think probably there is a squeeze right now and people seem to have a difficult time securing employment based on these stories, but opportunities ARE there to be had. Maybe it's just a question of WHO is getting squeezed and not if it is happening- because it does not seem to be affecting anyone I know.

Through the magical use of VPN, I was able to submit as many as 500 responses... all with a very favorable outlook on the current job market. No fellowship. 10+ offers with partnership track after 1 year with a starting salary of 350K.

I didn't get it either.

I sure hope that this is a dumb joke. In any case, each survey is individualized so if you did submit it more than once the joke is on you because you wasted a lot of time and your duplicate submissions will be easily detected and discarded. Anybody who would try and ruin a survey like this is a tool.

The email I got with the link for the survey said that it was for persons finishing training in the year 2012-2013 and who actively searched for a job in that time frame.

I got the message but the opening qualifying question asked if you have searched for a job within the past year. I've been employed for a year so I clicked 'no' and was disqualified from the study. I think the study will exclude a significant segment of pathologists who are currently employed and may or may not have experienced difficulty in the job market

I wish they would have started the survery with a question 'when did you finish training?' A broader base from which to querry would have been better. Also, they may have been able to extract trend in the job market from such a survery, instead of just a snapshot. I'm glad they are at least trying.

How much you wanna bet that the CAP conclusion will be that the pathology job market outlook is "mixed"?

I never did get the survey. Weird.
