so I know that the arterioles are surrounded by smooth muscle. contractions of smooth muscle in the walls fo the arterioles constricts tiny vessels, and increases blood pressure upstream in the arteries.

epinephrine causes smooth muscle to contract which constricts vessels and raises blood pressure.

My question is - when it's cold outside and blood is directed from the external parts (skin) to more internal organs...does that cause a rise in blood pressure??

blood pressure is relative to what its measuring

but i think in this case the increase in pressure in the 'core' is offset by the decrease in the periphery... so there is no net change through-out the circulatory system.

i could be wrong.
