Title.

A little about me: 20 year old community college student majoring in Chemistry. Been ghosting SDN for about 2 years now. Made this account as satire for the site's acronym.

Guess what I wanted to be before I found SDN? That's right, a pharmacist. No thanks to all of you, that dream is ruined.

So much for buying a house and a car and getting married and making babies one day.

I come from the bottom 20% of the ladder, parents on D.S.S. (Social Services) and Disability benefits. Been homeless before, and see you people bitching about work while you make high 5 to low 6 figures. Are you kidding me?

The only good thing that happened out of this debacle is that I apparently enjoy chemistry. Chemistry, lol, a subject that most pre-idiot, i mean pre-health students hate.

Don't tell me to go into other healthcare fields, I can't handle the stress of those jobs.

Engineering (especially in my state) is no joke. The only engineering field I can think of entering without wanting to kill myself is Chemical Engineering. Even then, it's not easy. I highly doubt most people on these forums could pass thermodynamics/differential equations and get an A in those subjects anyways. Nobody wants hire incompetent engineers.

Law is pharmacy job market on steroids.

Investment banking, I don't have the mentality or energy to deal with those rich go-getter frat boys.

PhD/Research Dissertations and grant funding are anything but easy and also expensive unsubsidized student loans. Big Pharma also likes to slash R&D like crazy, and outsource to H1b foreigners who are a bunch of submissive yes men doing whatever the lucky MBA frat bro in charge of the place wishes they do.

Computer programming, I hate coding. Took a coding class in high school and hated it. Didn't know jack **** and just copied the textbook. They make C.S. majors take Chemistry in my CC. They are idiots. Pretty sure they do it for the money. Well they are about to find out the economy comes full circle, just like law and pharmacy. Bls projects computer programmers at -7% growth. Have fun being jobless losers.

It seems like whatever you do, your screwed. Trump isn't fixing the economy fast enough like he promised, mass automation of jobs is coming no thanks to all the rich nerds inventing us out of jobs and into the unemployment line.

And I know all of this at the age of 20. I'm so young and I've already given up on life. Unless your born rich, your ****ed.

Thank you all for warning me against pharmacy (PAtoPharm). I hate all you for ruining my American dream. You can all go **** yourselves. Happy Discussing.

You say you don't want to work hard or have the energy to do this or that, well go on SSDI like your parents. If you don't want anything out of life it doesn't cost much to sit in a dark room and play video games all day. After 10 years of this I imagine your body will take care of things on its own and that will be it for you.

If being a baller was easy, why are most people barely scraping by doing more work than you've ever had?

Eh, actually we can keep up with the ChemE math, Pharmaceutics, remember?

But in terms of whether you're doing ok or not, I completely understand how a $550k UP attorney wants to kill herself as much as its the best thing either.

All relative and perspective, you have to earn a living somehow. But being on welfare, you get what we the taxpayers give. Between facing all of those problems, and the one problem that you have, hopelessness and dependency, I choose to work. Don't count on our future generosity as we working stiffs stress over it.

Go into a trade like plumbing, construction, or being an electrician. All trades right now are in high demand and pay well with full benefits, vacation, and pension. You won’t have to worry about saturation.

Get an oil field job you weakling.

Your post made me believe in white privilege.

You have found many problems, can you find solutions and positives ?

You WERE homeless
You weren't born in 1970 when you would likely have been drafted and may not even be alive
You are interested in chemistry
You aren't living in the great depression in fact the economy is pretty good

Be positive, work hard, don't quit and good things will happen

What?

You are welcome.
Your alternative reality of pursuing this and putting yourself into huge debt (even poorer than before) will probably thank us for that to not happen.

The only sore loser I see is actually you!

Getting A for thermodynamics/differential equations? Are you kidding me? I got straight As in my undergrad in all math/physics related courses, multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, ordinary/partial differential equations, quantum mechanics, etc. They were actually easy courses for me.

CS majors are idiots? Maybe cuz you are at CC, so you don't actually know any highly competent/qualified CS students in that kind of often low-end academic environment. Talk to CS majors at UC Berkeley, Stanford and UWaterloo, most of grads from these highly reputable programs make well beyond 6 figures refresh out of school. 130k-140k a year + signing bonus + stock options + performance bonus = ~200k a year for new hires at FLAG.

Don't say anything you actually don't know anything about and make stupid assumptions, it can really make a fool out of yourself. When you are incompetent, don't assume others are also incompetent like you.

Why not become a chemical engineer? That's a great field with one of the highest starting pays for an undergrad degree and just like retail pharmacy, employers don't care what your grades are. They only care that you have a degree. You can graduate from a state school with very little debt.

FWIW, my cousin took a coding bootcamp and easily found a software engineering job.

Also, l passed thermo and diffy Q when I got my engineering degree. Had a classmate in pharmacy school with a biomedical engineering degree, so he passed too.

Congrats on coming here to bitch because you were told the truth that pharmacy is a scam right now with tuition only going up every year, most pharmacists are coming out with 100-200K+ in debt, and very limited job opportunities. Guess you would have been happier if we told you it was all rainbows and sunshine, so you could enjoy working part-time while trying to payback an excess of loans.

My only solution is to keep pursuing my interest in Chemistry, apply to my state school's very competitive B.E. in CME program ( Bachelors in Engineering for Chemical and Molecular Engineering) and work really hard as my only ticket out. Otherwise may as well stop with an A.S. in Chemistry, accept my lot in life and move on.

I wouldn't mind being drafted. Being a soldier seems preferable to my life of drudgery. Private Military Contractors do pay a lot for Mercenaries too. My religious deadbeat parents won't let me though.

I had an opportunity to enter electrician trade school while I was in a homeless shelter. My parents rather me go to college instead. ( They're idiots.) About as entitled as any family on welfare can get.

Capitalism has worked. It has weeded you out.

Oh by the way, people don’t care that you are poor (I say that with kindness because I used to be poor myself).

I know they don't care. But I don't understand why people keep complaining about their jobs when they have it better than 90% of the people in this country and are in the top 1% globally in terms income.

Believe me, if there is anything I hate, it's making other's pay for my mistake. I certainly DO NOT enjoy using taxpayer money to survive and there is nothing worse to me than being dependent on someone else, but it's the best I got. I never asked to be born into my situation. I was considering becoming a Republican because of how I believed in their notion of hard work = success. That vision was shattered when I became homeless and can see the Democrat's side of the argument. I have to say, I agree with them now.

As if I'd ever let that happen.

Go to the MD, dental section, or any forums on professions that can make 6 figures, you will always find people constantly whining. People complain because they believe they should deserve more for what they have invested over the years, like tuition, time, effort and other personal sacrifices. Of course, you won't understand the pressure, pain and agony they had to endure over the years leading up to their "better" job and income until you become one of them.
