Hey guys, I am about to be starting some ICU stuff and my cardiac rotation pretty soon...any recommendations for books to get myself ready? Hensley? Any recommendations would be great...I am reading Barash chapters etc already but wanted a cardiac specific book!

Hensley is solid. Read up on CPB, and the hemodynamic goals for the major pathologies (CAD, AS, AR, MS, MR, etc).

Most people like The ICU book by Marino. It's not bad, but its not evidence based enough for me. I feel like he's just stating opinion in parts of it. There are better books out there. There is a sticky in the ICU forum devoted to books.

"Core Topics in Cardiac Anaesthesia" by JH Mackay, et. al was a great introductory book for me for cardiac anesthesia. It is British, hence the funny spelling of anesthesia. A few hundred pages long but each chapter is only 4-8 pages each, so the reading is quick. The book certainly won't put you on par with Glen Gravlee (or any other cardiac guru), but if you can read it before starting your first cardiac rotation and understand the contents well, you will impress your attendings. They cover multiple types of pathophysiology and multiple types of surgeries, so it also makes for great reading the night before various cases.
