I keep reading of a national shortage of Cardiologists. Does anyone out there have a sense of whether or not the specialty is opening up to IMGs now versus say five or more years ago when it seemed untouchable? I guess the best route (or only one?) is IM residency with Cardio fellowship. Any thoughts on prospects, generally speaking?

Doesn't the IMG stigma gets removed once you've completed an IM residency, thus opening more doors for you to obtain your cadiology fellowship? And doesn't getting a fellowship dependent on how well you do during the IM residency, and not all the c*ap before that?

Btw, isn't cadiology the top #3 earning specialty in California, according to some physician salary survey, whose link i'm too lazy to look up? (#1 in Calif. in said 2002 survey was cardiothoracic surgery, #2 was neurosurgery).
