Hi,
There have been a lot of posts on neonatology and I was wondering how all of you who are applying in cards are doing.I am from the midwest and was hoping for some input on Children's Hospital of Michigan,Detroit. Also which programs other than CHOP,Boston,Baylor or Ann Arbor have a good reputation?
Thank you. 🙂

Cincinatti is just as good as those. Milwaukee and Indiana are very good because their volume is extremely high due to a lack of competition anywhere else in the state. So they do a lot of surgery, which is essential for good cardiology programs. St Louis Childrens has a good reputation but I have heard that fellows are not treated very well..they're kind of on their own with not a lot of guidance from the faculty. Emory and Seattle have good reputations as well.

Does Seattle have a good Pediatric Cardiology fellowship program?

seattle doesnt have one. during interviews, they were saying that they were trying to start one for 2006, but i dont know if it came through.

I interviewed with a cardiologist at Seattle who told me they would definitely have one by the time I would be a fellow (2009). Not to say it wouldn't be earlier, but he didn't specify.

i've basically heard the same list as the rest of you. the four biggest and strongest programs are widely thought of as CHOP, Boston, Texas Children's, and Michigan (Ann Arbor). All four programs have about 20+ fellows, high-volume cardiac surgery programs, strong subspecialties across the board, stand-alone CICUs, strong research, and can usually fund all of their fellows for a fourth subspecialty year (transplant, EP, echo, cath, MRI, etc).
Other strong programs that have been recommended to me include Emory, Denver Children's, UCSF, Hopkins (originator of the Blalock Taussig shunt), and Columbia. I don't know much about Midwestern programs, as I am not looking there.
anyone else out there who can offer some advice? thanks!
