what do you feel is the right answer to the question 'if being a physician does not work out for you, what other career path would you choose?'

i see it going 1 of two ways, you either pick something that is still medical.. PA, nurse, etc. and then they hit you pretty hard w/ why do you want to be a doctor instead of a different medical professional? (what would be a good answer for this, btw...???)

or, you pick a career that is either you hobby or something that is still involved in care for others, and you demonstrate that you either have unique qualities or are all about helping others...

anyways, what do you guys think? and, again, how would you answer if they followed up asking you why do you want to be a physician instead of another medical professional?

🙄
Just be honest with them.

just be honest with yourself and with them, I said I'd be a lawyer and go into pharm Law for example.

I had a friend that when asked this question responded with an itemized list about 10-15 jobs long including psychologist, FBI agent, fireman, and scuba instructor. Result? Accepted everywhere. It doesn't have to be a "commitment to medicine" you're proving, sometimes they're just curious what other careers you've considered.

Just take your hobbies and turn them into professions. For me I like computers, so I'd have a job in IT. Which is actually what my current job is while I have my gap year. I actually work on a healthcare information system dealing with hospital data analysis and hospital financials. We're in the process of setting up a massive system to handle a hospital I volunteered at. That was fun when I learned that.
