After completing an mbbs programme, there is a 1 yr internship period which could be done n the caribbean or us. Is it possible to do it in the us, and how does it work. Any one with any experience??

What's a MBBS?

It stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Its the British equivalent of an MD. Anyway, as for as your question goes regarding internship, if you're a foreign or international medical graduate, before you can do any kind of postgraduate medical training in the States, you have to be ECFMG certified. That means you have to pass USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 CS which are knowledge-based exams, and Step 2 CS, which is an assessment of your clinical skills. I'm assuming that you've already finished med school in the UK.

Actually, I meant Step 2 CK as a knowledge-based exam and not Step 2 CS.

I believe MBBS is also the equivalent of MD in Australia and India.

ok. So they don't have MDs in India and Australia?

By MDs I of course mean the degree and not doctors 🙂

They do have MD in the UK and the other Commonwealth nations, but MBBS is the degree you earn upon graduation from med school. Hence, this is the equivalent of earning an MD from a US med school. In Britain and the other Commonwealth nations, I believe an MD is earned upon completion of further study after med school.
