I'm sure this question has been asked before, but here goes:

If I'm preparing to apply for 2007 admission to US MD and DO schools, but want to be on top of things to apply for Caribbean School admissions if the US plan doesn't work, when should I actually apply: once I'm sure that I haven't received any US admissions, or some time during the middle? Right now, I'm going to apply in the May/June time frame for US, so if it takes till February or so to get all the responses, I'm wondering when the best time to apply to Caribbean would be.

I know that Caribbean admission can be deferred, but my only fear is that that there is a limit to how long the deferment is allowed, and whether or not some places in the schools that I've deferred might be taken by other people because I hadn't responded fast enough.

Thanks.

you could probably wait until february to send out your caribbean apps. actually, you could probably wait until later, but it can take several months for some students to hear back, depending on their application. you just gotta ask yourself if you want to be waiting to hear from US waitlists in may or june and not have your safety net in place yet.

anyways, your top priority is obviously your US apps. get your secondaries in as soon as you can, and hopefully this will all be a moot point. good luck!

If I applied and were accepted to a Caribbean school (let's say I applied in the winter cycle, of the 3 cycles they usually operate under), how long would I be able to defer my admission to the school?

if they allow you to defer at all, it would be one semester max.

So am I assuming that the best thing to do would be to apply later in the cycle, around February or so?

I just don't want to wait until after I've totally exhausted all my US DO and MD options to pursue the Caribbean; I'd like to multitask in the best possible way so that there isn't a large time gap between decisions. That's why, when I apply this June for the US schools, I'd like to have a rough idea as to when I should be considering sending my Caribbean applications in, since I'll be waiting until 2007 to hear back from some schools.
