Hello all,

I am a caribbean grad applying to psych, and I currently only have one interview. I realize that I have gotten myself into this situation with two attempts on ck, and low scores. I did 4.5 months of psych rotations on top of my core psych rotation, so I feel that I have shown significant interest in psych. At this point, would it be a good idea to write emails to PCs or PDs to 'beg' for interviews? Any suggestions for the content and organization of this type of letter? I would love any advice on this subject and do apologize if this has been asked many times. Thank you

You might get lucky and have that email hit the coordinator's inbox 30 seconds after someone else cancels, allowing her to save a trip to her waiting list to find a replacement.

But, realistically, the best that will happen is that you'll get added to the bottom of that waiting list, which has 10x more applicants than open slots already.

Unless...

1) Your letter convincingly emphasizes a local connection,
2) Your application, CV, past experience, everything is screaming "Psychiatry! Only Psychiatry!" as opposed to whispering "This is my backup plan...", or
3) You have an advocate inside that program.

Sorry--that's just the way things are this year.

Thank you OldPsychDoc, I appreciate your advice. I'm hoping the odds are in my favor and that I can match this year. If not, I will take step 3 before the next season and hopefully it will help programs become more confident taking me on. Thanks again.

Keep fighting the good fight. Isn't over under Brumhilda breaks glass. If you match, you match. Keep working forward on Step 3 and find a potential place working in a research lab somewhere until the following year.
