If you're a current dental student at Case, could you share some of your experiences?
Was it everything you were expecting it would be?
Any insight would be helpful because I'm currently deciding between Case or Penn.

I love Case. I graduated in '08 and have many friends graduated from Case prior to that. We all agreed that Case had prepared us well in clinical and business skills. School will not hold your hand every steps, you have to seek out aggressively and brain-picking every instructor at every opportunity. All of us were able to open our office successfully within our first or second year. Good luck.

Hi HuyetKiem, thanks for your response. What do you think of the PBL structure? Was Case P/F when you were there? If the boards are P/F, and my marks from Case are P/F, will this decrease my chance of specializing after graduating from Case? Thanks for your input!

Case is P/F, but they keep all your stats on file. The dean personally told us in our meeting that if boards is P/F and Specialties don't institute their own exam to evaluate candidates, then the school will release the rankings.

Okay, this is VERY good to hear. So I'm guessing they still record your mark in every course/EdMod in the system, but display it as a P/F? I read that in order to pass, you need a 70%... so what are the averages like in your classes then? Are there a lot of gunners at Case who want to specialize, or are most ppl becoming GPs?

In my heart, I seriously want to be at Case more than Penn, so I really hope you guys can give all of your honest insight to what it's like at Case!

Could someone please talk about this? I would greatly greatly appreciate it 🙂

i'm not sure how much easier this could be put out there. you either pass or fail every class. course grades and perfomance get tracked by faculty and administration. student feedback and outside the school is ultimately either pass or fail on documents. some people ride the bubble and get stress from p/f.

Thanks for your input, but my question was targeting the situation at CASE. Students at Case know their mark in the class despite P/F, the class average, and the standard deviation, so I was asking about what those numbers were usually like in their classes. Where are all the Case students?!??!

Case's grading is jacked up. Sometimes its 75 to pass sometimes its 70. On tests they give you your percent with the SD. SO they give you your grade. At the end of the semester all your classes have either a P or NP. (so what's the point of P/F?) averages are Bs or As depending on the class. If its Dr Ochinero's class, the average is 50% but everyone still passes. There are about 6 gunner girls in our class, so that's not really a lot. But almost everyone that applied to a specialty/residency got in. ...it doesn't matter what school you go to, you'll be fed up by the end anyways.

Class averages are usually somewhere around 80-85 +/- 7~9 usually i think
sometimes close to 90
If you study what you were told to, it is relatively easy to get 90s, in my opinion

This looks like you answered your own question. Why would you go somewhere where your heart is not into it? I am a Case senior, if you like Case then go...why fight it?
