I'm left with the dilemma to choose between Case or Minnesota. I'm kinda leaning towards Case because the tuition is slightly cheaper and the class size is smaller (around 70) and the living expense doesn't seem to high. However, Minnesota also seems to have a good reputation. Although the tuition hike does seem pretty high per year.

Wondering if anybody has any insight into these two schools? How are the clinicals anyone know? I heard Case has a big patient pool.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I know exactly how you feel, making a decision between a state school Minnesota (which I am OOS) and a private school. For me every private school I have interviewed at so far UDM, Midwestern, Loma Linda. Have had overall stronger clinical training than the state schools which are just still very old fashioned and didactic (2 years theory and 2 years clinical). Furthermore, with the yearly tuition increases, the state schools are now just as costly as most of the private ones. To me I would choose the private schools over the state schools for the better program with equivalent costs and being in a school where essentially everyone pays the tuition just makes me more comfortable lol.

But this is just my opinion

Interesting decision you have to make but here's my 2 cents: living in Minneapolis is gonna cost more than living in Cleveland I assure you.

Especially near campus. I'm an undergrad at the U of M and cost of living around campus is kind of crazy, especially for a professional student who probably doesn't want to live in a run-down house in Dinkytown with 14 other people.

The Twin Cities are great, though, and the new light rail line through campus is going to be pretty incredible.

I didn't apply to either school so I don't have much insight beyond that. I will say that everyone I know in d-school at the U is happy and feels like they made the right decision. It definitely has a good reputation, especially in the upper midwest. Patient pool is very good from what I've heard, as well, although I think either Cleveland or Minneapolis will provide a similar pool.

Only because Minneapolis is a truly awesome place to live 🙂. I can't speak for Cleveland, but there is no shortage of culture, scenery, great food and generally pleasant people in both Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Would pick case if I was in your position. MN tuition can be umm unpredictable lol...Notice how the green sheet they gave you has only year 1 on it...

Do you guys know if when treating patients during clinicals, whether either of the schools make the patient pay up front first or after the treatment?

^^Regardless, I would still choose Case Western for reasons that I'm not exactly sure of.

Haha you end up with so so so little time to really do anything in the city that you really should just consider the school. Itself. Having interviewed at Case, I really liked it. And Cleveland ain't so bad. It's definitely growing on me more. Lots of awesome places to eat at, pretty affordable to live in, and definitely not as cold as Minnesota.

Post above ^....We are going to dental school with other well educated colleagues, these are the people we will interact and communicate with everyday so the surroundings matter little except for costs...we are going to dental school, not sightseeing lol

Sad thing is, we SHOULD get to enjoy the city but spare time is so measly. A friend of mine ended up going up to Boston. He hasn't even seen a small fraction of Boston yet and he's already graduating soon. With what little time you have, you're either studying for boards or just going out for a quick drink with some friends somewhere close and that's about it. It's not as though people get to enjoy the orchestra and all the museums every weekend. And above all, everyone's mostly poor, unless daddy pays for the penthouse and the benz for the future "doctor" lol.

Mike Polk is a really funny comedian, though you have to get a sense of his humor at times.

He also made a rather funny cat video: (sorry... language...).

Awesome! It's Dr. Chuck! 😎

I wheezed at the Cleveland videos. Definitely needed some albuterol after laughing and wheezing at the same time. "All our fish has AIDS" haha

As someone retweeted to our Twitter feed... a more "appropriate" tourism video of living in downtown Cleveland (though again, I also like Mike Polk's video too).
