Well, I received a last minute invite at Cleveland Clinic/Case Western. I'm interviewing at Cleveland Clinic on 2/21 and Case Western on 2/22. What I want to know is do I have a shot at getting an outright acceptance this late in the cycle or am I most likely interviewing for a waitlist spot.
My second question is about the travel arrangements on the way back from Cleveland. The easiest flight from here (Milwaukee) to Cleveland returns on 2/22 at 5:10pm. The CWRU website says that the interview day ends at 3:30 but not to schedule flights until after 5:30pm. Would I be able to make a 5:10pm flight then?

I can't speak for CCLCM, but I know Case has a very strong policy of not interviewing for the waitlist - they still have spots.

Did they tell you what time your interview is? If you have an AM interview, it seems pretty possible. Is there any chance you can do carry-on luggage on the way home? That would save you from the 30 minute check-in mark. Carry your suit in a hanging bag, then wear it home and carry on dirty clothes. 🙂 Obviously, be wary of toiletries - keep them down in size or just take some that you can toss.

BTW, congrats on the interview & MCAT score - people with 40's are better than those with any other score, including higher scores. (To those who don't know me, I'm kidding.)

during the information session, case made it very clear that they hold a large number of applicants. the reason that they do this is that they do not want overadmit early in the cycle and deny otherwise qualified applicants admission merely because of the lateness of their application. even this late in the cycle, you are definitely interviewing for an acceptance and not a position on the waitlist. good luck!

Thanks, I'm psyched for another interview (most likely my last). And i like people with 40's too 🙂.

I interview with CWRU in the morning, 10:00am with Dr. Christian Essman (anyone know who that is?). So hopefully I should be able to make that flight. Though now that I think about it, I might as well just drive to Cleveland. Not that much longer in terms of total travel time (think about 4 hours vs. 6 hours) and a hell of alot cheaper.

edit: I figured out who Dr. Essman is. Amazing what Google can do.

Congrats. Like Maxprime already said, you are definitely NOT only interviewing for a waitlist position. Both programs put a lot of candidates on hold until the end of interview season. I was a January interviewee at both programs and was accepted to both a few weeks later. One of my classmates interviewed on the last possible day two years ago (end of February) and was accepted, no waitlist.

Give yourself at least an hour to get from Case to the airport. I'd say if you'll be done with your interview day by 3:00, you should be fine. The train ride (if you take the RTA) is about 45 minutes. You can catch it right across the street from campus.

If you decide to drive, be careful and give yourself lots of time. The weather is pretty unpredictable this time of year and you could easily get yourself stranded somewhere. They shut down part of the highway today. Plus there is all kinds of construction going on all along Euclid Avenue, which is one of the main streets connecting Case and the Clinic. I'd probably fly if it were me.

Good luck with your interviews.

good luck SStorm if you happen to be reading this. My interviews at Case and CCLCM were enjoyable and fairly low-stress. Everyone was nice and students seemed happy.

Student interviews were hte best. Just a chill easy going chat over a cup of coffee.

I interviewed at Case & Cleveland Clinic last week and got accepted to Case this week...still waiting to hear from Cleveland Clinic.

As for traveling, I would say it depends entirely on the weather. I had an afternoon interview and finished right at 3:30 (everyone was quickly trying to gather there stuff to catch flights), but it was snowing and there was TONS of traffic. My flight was at 6:15 and I would have just made it (but it was delayed anyway). The airport is only a 20 minute drive from the school so if you print our your boarding pass from the school, you should be fine.

Good luck!
