Hi everyone,

I'm deciding between being committed to Case and going to the UBC interview ($850 flight!?). Any current CW students here who don't mind sharing your experiences? What are some of the pros and cons of Case Western?
More specifically, do you think CW is good for:
1. Preparing you for specialization
2. Find a job outside of OH or in Canada (Does the school even matter when you are finding jobs? Current dentists: do you look at schools and judge based on schools when hiring associates?)
I noticed that many people declined their acceptances to Case on that poll (waitlisters, we're declining at XX school or sth like that). I guess I'm a little alarmed by that. USC, NYU, sure - they are expensive. But why Case?

Thanks,
C

Great school. I didn't like the city compared to the other schools I visited.

Commit to Case...go the UBC interview if you think you will choose UBC over Case. Regardless, put a deposit down at Case if it is your only acceptance.

I am going to put down a deposit no matter what, sorry if I didn't make it clear. I guess I want to learn more about Case because I'm trying to decide if I were to fly to UBC for the interview or not (aka. would I choose UBC if i were accepted there over Case)

I loved case, but definitely did not like Cleveland. It is also relatively expensive.

Case is a well respected, solid clinical program. I think it's Cleveland that gets the bad wrap.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: Thank you, I laughed so hard.
But seriously, is there anything else? Do people turn down Case only because of Cleveland, lol?

I've been going back and forth for days now...driving me crazy!!!
Case or UBC - assuming I have scholarship for Case but none for UBC...and that I want to practice in the US later.
Bought tickets on AirCanada to Vancouver, then cancelled it, then bought it again...ahhhh going nuts :scared:

I think UBC would actually end up being more expensive than Case if only for the living costs. But then again, Vancouver vs. Cleveland... come on.

Go to the UBC interview. I've heard all the horror stories coming out of there but in the end it's still a fantastic university and a fantastic city, and folks in Canada have actually heard of it as opposed to Case Western (not dogging on Case here, just saying that UBC has far more name recognition within Canada and the rest of the world). Who knows, you might end up loving it.

Personally, I'd still rather end up at UBC than Case, if only to remain in Canada.

Thanks. Is the brand really that important? Is UBC more well known than Case even here in the U.S.? I'm most likely going to practice in the states. I'm not concerned if the general public in Canada doesn't know Case, but if brand matters for specialization and finding a 'desirable' job, then I'd like to know more.
Yes, Vancouver > Cleveland. Case cheaper than Vancouver (significantly for me due to scholarship). Case has earlier clinical. I have friends in Vancouver......argh, I'm going nuts trying to decide based on location, cost, "brand"(??), which prepares me better for job/specialization, etc. It's been 120 hours and I still can't decide. :scared::scared::scared:

Seems like Case is only expensive if your a resident lol.

OP: Case is a good school. Like others have said here - Cleveland sucks so they turn it down. If you want to practice here in the US I would go to Case 👍

I agree with Bereno! If you want to stay in the U.S. and practice, go to Case... also from your posts it seems that it would be the cheaper route, so you have 2 good reasons to go there 🙂
