Hey everyone,

First time poster, but I've been browsing the forums since I started the application process. Anyways, I was hoping you all could give me any advice to help me make a decision between going to Case Western or U of Michigan. I need to make a decision by end of this week, so any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a list of what has been weighing on my mind:

If I were to go to Case, I would be living rent-free since my brother owns a condo down the street near Cleveland clinic. So I assume my living expenses will be quite low.

The tuition at Case is $42,500 for the 2006-2007. At Michigan, tuition as a non-resident is $37,572. I'm assuming my living expenses at Michigan will be more than the difference in money between Case and Michigan.

I'm from the Cleveland area, so I am somewhat familiar with downtown Cleveland. Honestly, I've never been a big fan of the city of Cleveland. When I visited Michigan, I loved the campus. I definitely would enjoy the campus setting over a city location.

Stating the obvious here, Michigan's class size is bigger and the school in general is larger. So culturally/socially speaking, I would expect to meet a more diverse group of people. I know it's important that the rare times that I do have free time, I have a good group to hang out with.

However, I know choosing dental school should be more about the education and not the location. I'm currently thinking of specializing. Which school do you think would prepare me better? With dental schools not being ranked, it's so hard to compare the academic levels of each school.

I would choose Case if I were you. Their board passage rates are better. Also, Ann Arbor is VERY expensive to live in. If you have a free place to stay I guarantee you will be paying a lot less to go to Case.

this is coming from someone who just graduated from university of michigan as an undergrad and was accepted to both umich and case for dental school. i already chose case. ann arbor and the whole "michigan attitude" is not what you think. don't get me wrong, ann arbor is fine, but the school is a whole other story. i'm all into michigan sports, but academically, i could do without it. i am thrilled to get out of AA and make my move to Cleveland at CASE. everything really sold me there over michigan from the interview to the facilities. again, good luck with your choice but i've lived in ann arbor for the past four years and i can tell you that four years of michigan is more than enough!

Michigan is a good all around school. But, what I hear from my freind at CASE, they are good clinically and probably better than Michigan in that sense. If it were me and I was in your situation I would go with CASE becasue my only goal is to beacome a good clnical dentist and I don't really care about doing research or specializing. More patients, good for me. Ann Arbor is very nice area and I love it here. It is very culturally diverse that person from any background will feel comfortable here in AA. Also, Ann Arbor is surrounded with rich people so not many pateints to go aroundwith. they have good amount of patients but no where near what schools like temple, UDM, Tufts and many other well known clinical schools. I personally know one person who is choosing to go to CASE over Michigan(he is out of state just like you) becasue I felt hat CASE offered him better clinical education than Michigan.
