Hey-o!

I just saw on the AADSAS portal that I will be invited to an interview at Case Western. However, it's pretty late in the cycle. I don't hear many people on SDN chit chatting about Case Western. What's the dealio, the word on the street, and the rumors?

Here is the deal in my opinion, I dont think it is late in the cycle for them. I was invited to an interview there back in Oct for April!!! I could not believe it but in the interview invite they specifically said they fill their class slowly and would still have seats available at that time. I have since moved up my interview day however but thats the dealio.

Anything else guys? I would love to hear opinions about the school, etc.

Barking Lamb,

Case was a great school, it is a little to downtown for someone like myself, from a fairly rural area. Though there is a great campus environment. Everyone was so friendly and seemed genuinely happy, they really do a great job of making you feel welcome. The school is really active with a real university feel, not an isolation feel like at some dental schools. This was the only school that went out of their way for me, when i said clinical experience was the most important aspect of dental school. They let me assist a 4th year student after my tour/interview (though i suctioned the patients lips more then saliva, my bad...) One of the two interviews was so laid back you cant help but relax. the other interview is more structured but still very laid back. Though i was fortunate enough to get in to a great state school, i know i would have loved to go to case... Good luck.

Thanks Sisero, that was some phenomenal feedback. If anyone else would like to share their personal experience with the school I would be delighted to hear it.

I just got an email from Case stating that my application is now "Under Review" and that they need more time. Did anyone else get this from Case and what does that mean?

I got that email last month. They only send out so many offers per round so that there are still spots open for those that haven't interviewed yet. So you have to wait till they make their next round, sometime next month.

I haven't gotten my email this round yet though, probably tomorrow.

Do you think we have a good chance of getting accepted since we did not get waitlisted?

Hey nondescriptive,
If you don't me asking..did you interview there? Or you're still being under review for an invite? Thanks!

If you are "under review", it is the same as "continuing review" at other institutions. Basically, the Admissions Committee has found your application acceptable, but upon ranking, your file didn't make the cutoff for the number of offers we have left to issue for that round. Your file is reranked for the next round.

Essentially your chances of getting admitted depend on how many seats are still remaining after an offer deadline has passed. As I tell everyone on interview day, we don't operate like the airlines do and overbook a flight. We play things conservatively because we recognize there are some excellent applicants that we still have in our pool that wind up having later interview spots.

This is at least why we ask anyone to contact us if they have been accepted elsewhere and will not be using their reserved interview slot for us. It allows us to pick up other applicants that could be invited to interview but are not. No shows to interview days block potential applicants from being considered with us, especially if we still have seats open. We continue to interview until May, and depending on our responses to our offers, we might still have a handful of seats left when our interviews are done... but it depends on the responses we get.

Anyone hear back from Case in the last three months? Any acceptances for those that interviewed and were placed on their "under review" list? Is this a silent rejection, unless they end up having a bunch of open spots left in May? What is the percentage of accepted students? I feel like quite a few people have been placed on Case's "under review" list.
