Committee interviews are coming up and hopefully in the near future interviews at schools as well. I'm starting to look into interview questions and i have noticed that sometimes there are questions asking about opinions on healthcare issues like insurance companies etc. where is the best place to read up on issues like this to broaden my knowledge of the current issues. i know a little bit, but do not want to be misinformed/uninformed.

try watching documentaries, they are both educational and fun...

Individuals really loathe at the thought of having to read up on something as broad as America's Healthcare issues JUST to skim by interviewing questions. And I have to agree because who really has time ontop of all the other stuff pre-meds do to figure out a concrete plan to rid the world of aids, when paid and trained scientists are having a hard time with it!

Some parts of the application process just seem like pure tortue.

Sometimes, the Health Section of the New York Times will have some interesting ethical issues that they highlight. It is a good thing to look at from time to time. Signing up is free.

You could also think about what are the biggest challenges with healthcare in the US, in your opinion. I was asked this...

What's kind of funny is that of all the interviews I have went on in these last two cycles, only two interviewers asked that directly. Other than that, it wasn't even addressed. You would think that becoming a doctor would require an insight into one's moral and ethical pov.

For health policy read: Understanding Health Policy: A Clinical Approach By Bodenheimer. It was used as a textbook for a health policy course I took. Its any easy read though. Lots of vignettes that make it easy it understand. Your school's library probably has it. Oh and the new edition recently came out.

Well maybe I was bad lucky enough to be asked this. In my head I was like "whoa, where did this come from.." but played it cool like cucumber.😎

Go on Amazon.com and ssearch for a book called "healthcare meltdown". Someone posted about it on the forums a while back and I found it for $5 at a used bookstore. Check out the reviews on amazon also. The book is very good, I used it to prepare for my interviews. I felt like I gained alot of knowledge that will help me when I become a doctor. Oddly enough, I was never asked any healthcare questions in any of my interviews!!

Good Luck!
