So, let's say that you apply to a program that has both categorical and advanced positions. If granted an interview, will you know whether you are interviewing for one or the other or both? Secondly, when it comes time to rank the programs, will you have the opportunity to rank the categorical and advanced positions individually? Inquiring minds wish to know!

Then inquire of the PD. The answer will likely vary between different programs.

In general, if it's like anesthesia programs that have both C and A spots, you'll be interviewing for both and can rank both on your list individually.
