I plan on applying to LECOM next spring. I will not be applying to any medical schools mostly because I am realistic in my expectations and I would benefit from a year of more intense science classes (I currently hold above a 3.0 with some more classes to come).

Anywho, I started as Pre-Med late in the game (Junior yr) and now am trying to get through so I do not have a year off in between graduation and post-bac.

My question is, is it acceptable to take ONE class, Bio II, at a CC?

Also, retaking a class I failed (Anat and Phys II) at CC. Is this a good idea.

I would not retake a class at a CC, and would avoid as much CC classes as possible. Outside of California, taking CC classes is usually frowned upon, especially when you are already at a university.

When retaking a class, you would want to retake the same class at the same school. This avoids any potential argument that you did better because the school was "easier". This is why you shouldn't retake it at a CC.

Now if you had a good GPA to start off with (3.4-3.5), then taking a class at a CC isn't TOO bad, but coming from a lower GPA, it may appear that you are seeking to spruce up your GPA at a "less-competative" CC. I've always been a supporter of transfer students, so from a Californian's perspective, I can say that CC courses are on par with their university counterparts. Regardless, having spoken to many med schools about my GPA, it REALLY helps that I did better in upper division undergrad classes (e.g. those from a university). I'm sure there are 1000 other SDNers that would say that CC classes are just as hard, and I would tend to agree, but it really doesn't matter what we say. What matters are the Adcoms😉.

Well considering that I am applying to the Post-Bac and no medical schools, NOT retaking the A&P class should not hurt me very much. I just need to make A's and B's in my classes now and get the required GPA and MCAT for admission into the program and I can go from there and show that I can handle it.

Thanks for the advice!

😎 I agree with the relentless---I think you should stick it out and go back to a university...even LECOM may see this as an easy way out. If you can only afford a CC then be prepared to explain your decisions for switching back and forth.

I'd take the Bio II class if you were going to do it during the summer class and your school doesn't offer it. But I think you should stick it out at the university for any retakes if you already took it there.
