CCOM Housing

Hey,

Have any of you received the housing application for CCOM? I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who hasn't.

Also, where are all of you planning on living? I'm definately going to live in a single in the dorms, but I'm not certain if I'll be picking the traditional or LLC. Which of the two is better?

I can't wait to meet all those going to CCOM in the fall! 🙂

I'm pretty sure that the housing application came in your acceptance package...but then again, I could be wrong... The LLC seems like the way to go, at least that's my humble opinion. Good luck!

Hey NUgirl.....

I haven't gotten the housing application yet either.
so far i've received the form for the titers which need to be drawn. and i just received the school financial aid form along
with my email address.

I think that they said that the housing forms would be mailed out sometime in feb. or march.

I can't wait to meet everyone also. I just found out that someone I interviewed with also got accepted and she is supercool. ( nice word, huh? ) 😀

I will be in chicago sometime in May visiting......it would be great to get together and hang out over coffee or drinks and get to know people. PM me if you want.

I heve recieved my housing application, but I am not living on campus. I am looking for apartments off campus. I have not gotten my financial aid stuff yet though. It seems like stuff goes out kind of randomly.
If anyone reading this is from chicago and has some ideas of what towns are good to live it would help me alot.

Congratulations to those who have recently decided to attend CCOM. Welcome to the family!

I live off campus, so I might be able to help a little bit with that for those who are looking. I would suggest looking in the following towns for apartments: Downers Grove, Oak Brook, Westmont, Lombard, or Oak Brook Terrace. The vast majority of off-campus people live in one of these towns, and shouldn't be more than a 10-15 min drive from school. I personally live in Lombard and am 3 miles from school, which I think is pretty good. Downers is pretty nice, but for some reason there aren't a whole lot of apartments and those that are there are a tad more expensive on average. Oak Brook is by far the nicest, but the most expensive. Westmont is slightly further away but cheaper.

Of course, some people live further away (Oak Park, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, or other suburbs) but then you are dealing with a long commute in the morning, which will be exacerbated by rush hour traffic and occasional inclement weather. But, if it's your thing to be closer to the city, go for it. Any other questions just let me know.

I would have been happy to offer advice as to where to live (I'm from Chicago), but unfortunately I'm not familiar with that area.

Hey everyone....

Just to let you know....I talked to the housing office today, and they said that they just did a mass mailing this week for housing information, and some people got housing request applications. I think you might have to request the housing applications.

With my acceptance materials I recieved a brochure with a postcard that you can mail back if you wish to recive a housing application. The letter with it says that if you mail the postcard back a housing app will be sent to you after Feb. 15th. Hope that this helps.

Live off campus, I did it my first two years! Why waste such a great city like chicago....downers grove is suburban hell!
Oak Park is the only descent sub., 9miles from downtown, 10 from school....realitively diverse and hip town.

I just did a breif search on APTs in areas near to CCOM from www.apartments.com
Could anyone comment on any of these apartments? I am looking for comments like worst APTs and decent APTs to recommend. My key factors are 1. proximity to school and any bookstores, such as B&N and Borders, 2. the low rent (upto $750/mo), 3. safe and quiet neighborhood, 4. low utility bills.

or, Are there any other APTs that are not listed here that you want to recommend.

Dr. Kim,
Yorktown Apartments are very close to school. I have a friend that lived their the first two years, and it seemed decent enough. It's about 5 minutes from school, on the other side of the 88 expressway.

Borders is not particularly close to school. The closest Borders bookstore is near the Oak Brook mall in Oak Brook off of 22nd St. However, many students from school frequently went to study there.

Hi everyone,
congrats on your acceptances!!!! I'm and MS2 and loving it here, except for the loooong dreary winter we are having (i'm from california 🙂).

My roomates and I will be moving out of our 3bdrm/2ba in June. There are tons of students living in the building so I thought I would post the link here in case anyone was interested in living off-campus.

I would definitely recommend off-campus. I lived in the dorms last year (redwood hall), and it was pretty convenient. However, the dorm food sucked and after a while I felt trapped on campus because you are there all day long! They also overcharge for cafeteria meals (and the caf closes so early).

If any medical students with an extra room are willing to sublet, I would be interested. I'm coming to do an away rotation in Olympia Fields (I think south of CCOM) in August and have had no luck with craig's list. I only need housing for a month. I'm from Florida and have no connections/family or friends in the area. I'm already spending an arm and a leg to get there and to other away rotations so any help anyone can provide would be appreciated.
