For those of you flying into O'hare... how are you getting into Downer's Grove? Taxi? Rental Car? It's like a half hour away, so just wondering what everyone else is doing, maybe we could carpool or something.

I'm probably going to stay with a friend in Chicago and then take a taxi from her place to the school. This is just tentative planning, though.

I really hope you dont intend on flying in the day of your interview.

Being from Chicago, I would recommend getting a rental car. I think a taxi would cost a lot of money, perhaps just as much or close to renting, so giving yourself the freedom of having a vehicle will be worth it. Yeah, traffic sucks, but it isn't that difficult. Everything is clearly marked, so as long as you have your mapquest printouts, you'll be fine. Also, the Downers Grove and Oak Brook (2 minutes from DG) have awesome restaurants. I highly recommend going to one of them for something good to eat. If you need any suggestions, PM me and I"ll give them to you. Definitely go for the rental car though.

A taxi from Aurora to downtown and vice versa costs about $57 so I'm sure to DG will be around $45.

If you're interviewing this month or next, you might consider taking the metra and either walking to the interview (it's a bit of a walk!) or getting a cab to the campus from the metra station (not too expensive).

Personally, if I didn't live around here and had the interview, I'd rent the car like the last poster said. And be careful about the reverse commute. Chicago is tricky that way - you're going to sit in traffic either direction if you don't leave early enough.

Just FYI:

You can get discounts on rental cars through AMSA if you are a member. This will definitely make renting cheaper than taxis (I am also in Chicago now). SOMA and AMSA also offer hotel discounts that may be helpful.

Hey. I'm not from Chicago, but I go there about every two months for vacation. I have a friend that lives right outside of Downers Grove and to get to him from O'hare, I take the blue line CTA train down to Union Station and take the BSNF metra train out towards the Downers Grove stop. You could take a taxi from there. The taxis are not too plentiful but available. Check out http://www.transitchicago.com/ and they can help you plan the whole trip!
