Hey guys...
Just had a few quick questions. I'm a junior right now, applying to d.o. school this summer, with some luck. anyhow, im sure u guys are sick of reading "am i good enough" posts, but its kind of important to me to know where/how to apply so im putting this up. anyways, im looking at a 3.25 science gpa, 3.4 overall gpa, 30R on the MCAT this past august. i do have tons of extracurrics, and some published research with a chemist from argonne labs. My girflriend goes to CCOM for pharm, and i love the school..i visited NYCOM this summer, liked that a lot as well.
anyways, just wondering ,
1.) what are their average accepted applicants like, gpa/ mcat wise?
2. ) am i better off just applying right away ( july ), or should i take more summer school to boost the gpa and apply in fall?
3.) anyone get into NYCOM or CCOM with similar stats?
any info is appreciated.
thanks.

Your stats look pretty good to me although your GPA is about average the MCAT will help you. As far as applying this summer... the earlier the better. I would go for it. Your MCAT is great. I found this page a while ago that ranks schools by MCAT (it's on the KCOM server and it gets updated periodically so I'm assuming its accurate).

The only thing I would be concerned about is if you have a lot of C's or dropped courses, etc. Be prepared to answer for those and if you have a lot... then maybe taking some science courses over summer wouldn't hurt. But then again one summer isn't going to do all that much for your overall GPA or even your science GPA if you've taken a lot of science courses already and the waiting may actually hurt you more than help you. If you're from an undergraduate univerisity that is considered difficult, then the admissions committee should take that into account.

Honestly, I think you should do fine and will get into a school even if it isn't CCOM or NYCOM. Best of luck... :luck: :luck: :luck:

Your MCAT will help out with the low science GPA. You look good for NYCOM. Get started on a DO letter right now.Nobody truly knows the stats for NYCOM since they don't release that info.

If you took summer classes that could boost the science GPA at least .1 grade point then it may be worth the shot to be more competitive at CCOM and other DO schools. You will be at least 8 weeks ahead of the August MCAT takers if all of your paperwork is in order.

check out the FAQ for the post on calculating science GPA(math is not included) and the post on retakes.
