CCSE 7-Avoid or Use?

Hey dudes

I'm on the fence taking Step 2 CK this early vs delaying where it's not reuqired to be on my ERAS, so I've been studying during my rotations. Anywho, took CCSE 6 today and was pretty excited about my score with the limited prep I've done.

However, I also purchased CCSE 7 which it seems this forum hates. Should I avoid taking this to preserve my confidence and instead grab CCSE 4? Although it's a waste of cash, I rather maintain confidence leading up to the exam than feel frustrated.

If you bought it, I would go ahead and use it and just keep in mind that it underpredicts. The practice never hurts.

Also if you are early in your preparation, take it now, and then take NBME 4 later on for a better prediction. Also consider UWSA

Do we know that it underpredicts? I thought it was tougher, but the curve is more generous as well.

That's what it sounds like the consensus is. People tend to get lower scores than NBME4/UWSA which have been reasonable predictors for many people.

I certainly hope it is the case, as I did not do as good as I was hoping on it.

UMN, I will on tuesday, will let you know how it goes then. I did take NBME 6 yesterday, scored 30 pt higher than on NBME 7 (3 day ago)

I got a 231 on nbme 7, took uwsa last monday n got a 258/720. Free 150 today was 88%. Will be takin ck this thursday. Im soo nervous. Really hope i score somewhr around my uwsa score. I have no idea on wat else to study. Im almost done wit my 2nd round of uworld (averaging around 88-92%). Might go over some Derm, Gyn n Peds tom. Any advice for the exam?

Sounds to me like you are pretty prepared! Today is Monday so you got about 3 days left including today, I wouldn't do anything too strenuous, just maybe read over your notes and try to consolidate what you know already. Just make sure you are well rested on exam day.

Just took it and scored ~18 points lower. I will probably take 4 this weekend now for a reconfidence boost.

Lots of the questions seemed to be pretty picky, and I stopped looking them up for answers after a certain point (way too much time wasted).

I don't want to discourage you, but I think the NBMEs are useful to rule out what NOT is going to be on the exam.

I think it's helpful to review what you miss, especially if you miss a question because you were unfamiliar with a topic or have an issue with interpretation of a question.

Anyhow, here are my scores of the assessments I've taken:

NBME 6- 269
NBME 7-251
UWSA1- 265

I only have a week off rotations for this thing, so hoping I can pull the upper 260s (and that NBME 7 was a fluke).
