Hey everyone!
Finished the Canadian DAT in February, didn't have time to post a breakdown until now. Here are my scores below:
20 PAT
22 CHEM
21 BIO
20 RC
21AA/21TS
Not the best score you see around here, but still a decent score? Here are the materials I used:
DAT DESTROYER - 13/10
This should be your bible. What I did was try to do about 50 questions a day my first time around, and then study the sections I had absolutely no clue on, and refresh myself on the ones I got wrong. Trust me, I got maybe half of them wrong. Did it a second time after this, but this time doing 100 questions a day, which I did again a total of 4 times (at least for biology, only went through chemistry twice).
You need to be able to master everything in this book. It is NOT overkill. Some people posted in their breakdowns that you don't need to worry too much about destroyer, but you won't do as well as you'd like to if you just shrug this book off as being 'overkill'.
For Chemistry, doing every problem will help you do problems on the real DAT extremely quick, which saved me a lot of time to focus on the biology section. Master it!
DAT BOOTCAMP - 9/10
Great study tool, but IMO wasn't very representative for the biology section of the DAT. I mean, some of the questions were great, but I found the wording of the actual DAT, and the questions in general to be much different. Does that mean DAT Bootcamp is useless for biology? NO! It's an awesome diagnostic test as it tests a broad range of subjects.
For Chemistry, bootcamp was spot on. Difficulty-wise, and wording-wise. I suggest doing a round of destroyer before attempting bootcamp at all.
For PAT, I didn't use this resource the way I should've been (at least for me). I tried going through the practice tests (full length), and was getting very discouraged when my scores were around 18, and just decided to focus on a few of my strong suits and just ignore TFE + pattern folding. The week before the exam I went through the individual section practice, and began to master those other 2 sections I was struggling with. Learn from my mistake! If you're struggling with a section, focus on the individual sections without doing the full length tests so you actually learn the concept through repetition.
DAT QVAULT - 8/10
Used it only for biology, was a great practice tool. Tests you a lot on the skeletal system which is often ignored in other resources, which I found was helpful for me. Didn't get this for PAT, but I did use it for the chemistry portion and found it a bit easy?
Hope this helps a bit, can't thank SDN enough for all the help it has provided me in studying. I would have been lost without it. Any questions, feel free to ask!
Cheers 😀
