Hey guys. I need some feedback on my first 2 CDP tests.

Test 1 Test 2
Score: 21 Score: 19

Keyholes - 9/15 Keyholes - 14/15
TFE - 12/15 TFE - 13/15
Angles - 14/15 Angles - 7/15
Hole p. - 14/15 Hole p. - 14/15
Cube C. - 12/15 Cube C. - 8/15
Pattern F. - 13/15 Pattern F. - 12/15

Time: 75min 72 min

Angle ranking was IMPOSSIBLE in test 2! I swear one of the questions had 4 exactly same angles.

Kaplan recommends:
Keyholes: 10min, TFE: 15min, Angle: 5min, Hole P.: 5min, Cube: 10min, Pattern F: 15min

I'm very slow with TFE and Hole punching. I takes me close to 20min to finish TFE and 15min for Hole. P! (I do LOS method)

My concerns:
Is 15min over really bad for the first 2 tests? Did anybody else have trouble with time when they first started CDP? (If so, how long did it take you to finish?) Also, is kaplan's recommended timing similar to how fast you guys are finishing?

Any tips are welcome! Thanks

I never knew what kaplan recommends but looking at the time- that's about how much time it takes me for every section when I practice.. Are these your first 2 tests? Keep practicing- you will get better at timing!

Yes these are my first 2 tests. I don't know how I can go from 15 min to 5 min in hole punch.

That looks okay. For me, having done two tests was not yet enough to get the hang of it. After about 5 tests, I got the hang of it and improved much. So wait until you do about 5.

I don't recommend going over the time limit. If you weren't able to finish in time, then that's your score. That means you have feel the time constraint and practice under it. After test #10 (or whichever is last), go do the tests again if you couldn't finish them in time in the past. For me, hole punching also took that long in the beginning, but after I got the hang of it (I started to use line of symmetry method naturally) I missed nothing on that almost always. So more practice is what I say.

I did not like the CDP's time suggestions for these sections. I bought the royal flush edition which includes numerous practice questions for hole punching, cube counting and angle ranking. My strategy was to practice these additional questions and ace these sections on the real DAT since I was weak in pattern folding and key holes. Over time, with a lot of practice I was able to finish these sections in 20 mins altogether which left me with 40 mins to attempt key holes, tfe and pattern folding. I would aim for using 10 mins each for these 3 sections and also use the remaining mins amongst these 3 sections, in case if some questions were harder to answer.
On the real DAT:
cubes and angles were easier than CDP's. TFE was about the same. Key holes were closer to achiever's test. hole punches were a piece of cake but that was because I had gone through a lot of practice. Hope this is helpful. Good luck studying 🙂
