Looking for some insight about how to proceed with a situation involving CE requirements that may not have been met in a previous year. Thank you for bearing with me while I explain the situation.

I just found out that in 2015, a state I'm licensed in changed their CE reqs, increasing them by five hours. So I may have not fulfilled the requirement that year. From that year on I'm sure that I'm fine. Should I make an effort to contact the state to rectify or will it be alright to just let it go?

The other option I could pursue would be to let that license go since I have another primary state.

Anyhow, thank you for taking the time to read and for any input you have.

I think in IL, the penalty for not completing CE's on time is having to do extra CE's. When you reregistered your license, didn't you have to sign that you had completed the # of CE's required? With NABP, I would assume every state pretty much audits everyone (or at least has the capacity to), so I don't think it would be possible to hide it. But if you are are considering dropping the license, then there is no reason not to contact the state and go from there. You are not the first person who has inadvertently messed up on CE requirements.

Check the board's website for record keeping requirements. Some only require you to maintain CE documentation for auditing purposes for only a few years. If you are out of the required period, just count yourself lucky you weren't audited and start doublechecking CE requirements a couple of months before you plan to renew. Some states allow other health care professional CE to be used for renewal purposes so the NABP wouldn't show those anyways.

I know a pharmacist who is licensed in multiple states and this happened to him. In his case he contacted the board and basically apologized for the mistake and asked what they wanted him to do. To my surprise all they had him do was do the required CE - no fine, no extra CE, nothing. I don't recall which state this was...maybe Virginia.

My perception and what I have seen at FL BOP meetings leads me to believe that if someone in FL did that they would be stuck with fines and additional CEs.

In FL we now have to use CE Broker to newer our licenses and I am not sure it would even be possible to renew without having the required CE. I am almost certain it couldn't be done 'accidentally'.
