Looking for suggestions on housing as a resident at Cedars. I am a NE transplant and have no I idea what to expect or where to begin! Any thoughts on location? Thinking about buying a place if possible - that is it makes sense financially. Since I am gradutating from medical school in Philadelphia in May, if anyone is looking for any info on Philly - I will be happy to offer any ideas. I can also be useful for Providence and Boston, having grown up in the former and having worked for 6 years prior to medical school in the latter. Looking forward to the input!

Cedars is basically between West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. The real estate is quite expensive. Check craigslist (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/rfs/) real estate to see what is available for condos- search for "west hollywood". Craigslsit also has good rental listings. Good luck.

I also matched at Cedars. I am from LA and went to UCLA for undergrad so I am familiar with the are. Cheaper options are the eastern Santa Monica are which is a 20 minute drive from Cedars (though only like 4 miles away) but it very close to the West LA VA (5 minutes) where you will be spending some time as well. Also, westwood south of Wilshire tends to be cheaper than above wilshire (UCLA area). Hope this helps.

most cedars residents rent, although a few (esp. those with significant others who make much more than a resident) own.

a lot of residents live within a 1 mile radius of the hospital, either in west hollywood or in los angeles (ie beverly hills adjacent). many live within walking distance. a few people live (or have lived) in places like west la, santa monica, and marina del rey, but traffic can really suck commuting from those places.

aside from the craigslist suggestion, i would also recommend checking out westsiderentals.com. the fee for that site is worth it
