There's a new processor that just came out for laptops. It's called Centrino 2.

Centrino 2 offers some major advantages if you need a super fast computer for gaming and if you watch a lot of high-def movies on your notebook. Otherwise, the older processors will do just fine.

This means that you can expect to see some great deals on the older laptops that use the Intel Core 2 Duo/Core 2 or even the older Centrino processors.

Actually, if you read the Intel page on Centrino 2:

http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/Notebook/centrino-detail.htm?cid=cim:ggl|cdmt2_us_brand|sC5FF|s

You'll see, just like with Centrino before it, it's not a processor, it's a platform, and it's still based around the Core2 processor, with a supporting Intel chipset, and Intel wireless module (Wi-FI and/or Wi-Max).

Overall, nothing really to get excited about.

In all honesty, I have been consistently disappointed in Intel wireless modules since the introduction of the Centrino brand. While they are better than say Airgo or Maxell, they are quite sub-par compared to Atheros, and particularly so when compared to Broadcom. In my experience working in IT Intel wireless modules have a shorter range, fewer options, and have a disturbingly high burnout rate. I actually just replaced an Intel wireless module burnout on a 1 y/o laptop last week, the owner was quite annoyed. In comparison I have several Broadcom modules that get used 16+ hours a day for the last 5+ years without so much as a hiccup.
