Im planning on taking the MCAT in Aug 2013. Lets say I score around 9-7 on each of the sections. These are the schools I want to apply to:

Midwestern University (DO)
Univ. N Dakota (MD)
Univ. Utah (MD)
Morehouse SOM (MD)
W.Virginia Osteopathic (DO)
Meharry Medical College (MD)
Touro University (DO)
Lake Erie Osteopathic (DO)
Univ. of England (DO)
A.T Still University (DO)
Louisiana State Univ. (MD)
Albany Medical College (MD)
Marshall University (MD)
Pikeville College (DO)
Virginia College (VCOM) (DO)
S. Illinois Univ Carbondale (MD)
Mercer Universty Macon (MD)
Univ. N.Texas (DO)
LECOM (PA and FL) (DO)

Which schools would I be better off applying to? I wouldnt mind going to a low tier school. I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

The solid post-bac perfromance will help a lot. Delete UND unless it's yoru home state. Definitely apply to any public MD programs in your home state, if any. Morehouse and Meharry are HBCs and a waste of time iunless you're a URM.
My suggested list is below:

Midwestern University (DO)
W.Virginia Osteopathic (DO)
Touro University (DO)
Lake Erie Osteopathic (DO)
Univ. of England (DO)
A.T Still University (DO)
Albany Medical College (MD)
Pikeville College (DO)
Virginia College (VCOM) (DO)
Univ. N.Texas (DO)
LECOM (PA and FL) (DO)

Suggest adding Drexel, Temple, Quinnipac, Rosy Franklin, NYMC maybe Tulaneand maybe SUNY-Upstate

Ahhh finally a response! 😍 All of the MD schools in my state, Ohio, are really competitive and I dont think I have the GPA for it :/

Im new to this forum, can you tell me what HBC and URM stands for?

Do you think I have a chance in getting an interview with all of the schools you suggested (Drexel, Temple, Quinnipac, Rosy Franklin, NYMC maybe Tulaneand maybe SUNY-Upstate) ?

URM - UnderRepresented Minority
HBC - Historically Black College

Oh, that makes sense. Thank you for the clarification!!!! 🙂

Mercer only accepts Georgia residents
Louisiana State University prefers in-state students and your GPA is too low for OOS
Albany Medical College your GPA is too low. Do exceptionally well on the MCAT and you could still have a chance.
Southern Illinois Only Accepts in-state residents

Honestly it's looking like osteopathic for you.

Thanks for your honesty. What would you suggest I do next?

Im currently trying to find a D.O to shadow and possible get a LOR from him/her.

I'd study as hard as possible for the MCAT. That is what matters. If you absolutely rock it, more doors will be open. Don't take it unless your confident you're getting high 20s repeatedly (DO possibility) or low 30s (DO likely and MD possibly).

Pour 100% of your effort into this test and secure a DO letter. I wish you the best of luck!

Im currently reviewing some of the topics for the MCAT now. I will go into my forever alone study-mode starting next week by disabling facebook and deleting all my games on my phone.

I got in trouble today at work for writing the differences between Sn1 and Sn2 reactions 😛

AND THANK YOU DrENDERW for your inputs...... I do appreciate them!

The combination of Ender Wiggin and Darth Vader is breaking my poor little brain...

Sounds like a good plan.

with your proposed mcat ( 9s ) it would be around 27. with your ECs youre very competitive for DO..obviously gpa is a bit low for DO...trust Goro, because he's an ADCOM i believe...heed his advice. If i were you , and depending on MCAT, I would maybe apply to a few in states, if you really want MD.it would be reaching , yes, but that's okay 😀

Thanks man 🙂 But the MD schools in Ohio are:

Ohio State University
University of Cincinnati
University of Toledo
and one somewhere near Akron.

I highly doubt I can get into any of them. And yes, Goro seems to know where to put the spotlight on schools I could attend. Im going to apply broadly as you can see. I just need to get some shadowing experience and a LOR from a DO. I wanna do more volunteer work like at the soup kitchen or at the Red Cross. 👍
