I did not test as well on the MCAT as my diagnostics which I believed boiled down to some knowledge gaps + anxiety on test day, but nevertheless the score breakdown was 127/126/127/125. I had to work a lot during my 3 months I gave myself to study so I could afford housing. While I don't come from an underprivileged household/background I still had to work to afford my apartment.
I am a Florida resident and go to undergrad at a public school in Florida. I want/prefer to stay in-state for medical school and would prefer a program that is more rural and/or patient-care based. I am fine with either MD or DO and would like a good list of options of schools to look at. This is my first cycle applying and would prefer not to take any gap years.
GPA: 3.93 cumulative 3.9 science, no upwards or downwards trend.
Clinical Hours: 2100 hours scribing at an ED and counting where I also help train scribes and set the schedule.
~75 hours as a medical assistant at a rural access clinic
I have some really cool experiences with these and have many stories regarding patient interactions!
Non-clinical volunteering: 350 hours clinical volunteering at the VA.
100 hours at a food bank
55 hours at a donation center for underprivileged moms.
300 hours as an assistant boxing coach for youths.
Research:
Biochemistry lab with a focus on GCPR's: 250 hours no pubs
Zoology lab with work in the field: 300 hours no pubs. This was a cool experience I will highlight.
Shadowing: 200 hours with neurology
50 hours neuro ICU
60 hours Emergency medicine
40 hours Oral Surgery (might not count since this might be more for dentistry, still a super cool experience!)
Leadership/organizations: I would say this is where I can be a little weak
Neuroscience club: outreach chair for 2 semesters
Phi Beta Kappa member
TA for 2 semesters teaching molecular genetics.
