Hello,
What are my chances of med school admissions in Ontario? (or what schools could I reasonable apply to in the US next cycle?)
cGPA: 3.95
wGPA: 3.94
MCAT: 515

EC:
-Volunteer as an emergency first responder for three years with increasing leadership resonsibility each year.
-Volunteer with a research-clinical-public education focused cancer group
-Various sports (playing, youth coaching and refereeing)
- 3 years of research experience (2 years paid), with conference presentations and first place in research competitions (2 NSERC USRAs). No current publications but I have two in the works.
- Teaching assistant for university science courses
- Science tutor
- executive board of on campus student councils
- Science outreach in the community
-other smaller things (a few others aren't coming to mind at the moment)
- the majority of my volunteer activities are long term and very demanding time wise

Your have a reasonable, but not a top chance at most ON schools. Try to apply OOP as well with your stats and see if you can get some offers. If I recall all CAN MD applications were due Oct 1 ...

I've already applied for this cycle. I'm in 3rd year now. I'm not sure I did the weighting thing correctly or even if its still relevant (2x the grades from 2nd year and 1x the grades from 1st year). Essentially, aside from raising my GPA, what can I do to make myself a more competitive applicant?

A lot can depend on how you wrote your application and how these experiences have changed you + developed your character. This is good considering you just started your 3rd year. Honestly I think if you keep doing what you're doing.... apply smart + broad (you have a chance at many CAN MD schools even with OOP status) and really work hard on your apps for months starting next summer (assuming things don't work out this year... 3rd year is always relatively more difficult to get into med vs 4+ yrs students) you have a decent chance in Canada. The real challenge in my opinion is keeping up + maybe pushing yourself to try new things for the next few years.

Best wishes,
